Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker’s leadership is a masterclass in governance, innovation, and community-building. It has been incredible to watch him put together a world-class economic development team and take personal interest with a hands-on approach to benefit the state and the greater nation. He has been a significant advocate for the Chicagoland area through a range of initiatives that address economic development, infrastructure, education, public safety, and healthcare.
Upbringing & Advocacy
Governor Pritzker was born in Atherton, California, in 1965 and raised with a strong emphasis on philanthropy and public service. He studied political science at Duke University after transferring from Georgetown, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1987. While in college, he gained hands-on experience in politics by working for influential members of Congress and later earned a law degree from Northwestern University in 1993.
Despite his family’s wealth, Pritzker has built his own path as a successful entrepreneur, philanthropist, and public servant. Before becoming governor in 2018 (and reelected in 2022), Pritzker helped launch several venture capital firms, which focus on funding and supporting growing businesses. As a politician, he is known for championing causes like protecting abortion rights, advocating for stricter gun control laws, and supporting LGBTQ+ equality.
Community Developments & Initiatives
Developments like the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) with PsiQuantum as the anchor (which Clayco is helping build on the city’s south side), will not only house one of the world’s most advanced quantum computers and cooling facilities but will also create thousands of jobs through local partnerships. The Rivian factory expansion in Normal, IL, is another example of how Governor Pritzker’s revitalization efforts create lasting economic opportunities while cementing the city’s position as a global hub for cutting-edge technologies.
Governor Pritzker’s Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan, a $45 billion infrastructure program, is restoring and modernizing the state’s roads, bridges, and public transit to improve accessibility and make life better for millions of Illinoisans. I strongly support his work on the public safety front through investments in violence prevention programs, job training, and mental health services to tackle gun violence at its roots. Governor Pritzker is committed to environmental welfare all around. His leadership is also addressing climate change with the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), which is creating jobs in renewable energy while tackling environmental injustices in underserved neighborhoods.
Shaping Illinois’ Future
It is clear through his steadfast dedication to Illinois residents that Governor Pritzker’s leadership is paving the way for lasting economic opportunities, technological advancements, and a more inclusive community. Thank you, Governor, for shaping Chicago into a city of resilience, innovation, and hope.
Illinois is moving in the right direction because we’re making sure of it!
