Lamar Johnson Collaborative Wins Big at 2023 AIA Design Awards in STL

There are smiles all around at Lamar Johnson Collaborative – and deservedly so. Clayco’s partner company received two awards for our outstanding project work at the 2023 AIA St. Louis Design Awards night!

LJC is a dedicated and talented team of creative professionals who understand what it means to inspire and connect communities. Earning the MERIT Award in the Architecture Category for the St. Louis County Library – Lynn Beckwith Jr Administrative Building, “The Beck,” and the HONOR Award in the Unbuilt & Master Plan Category for Brickline MP are testaments to the organization’s impact.

“The Beck” is located at the heart of the St. Louis County Library district and is critical to fulfilling the district’s goals and operations. The 71,000-square-foot building features incredible light-filled workspaces catering to each department's needs, including accommodations for daily bookmobile trips and a seamless workflow between acquisitions, processing, and cataloging divisions. This development is also critical to the maintenance and growth of community programs like Born to Read and Kindergarten Prep, which focus on early literacy in children.

The Brickline Greenway Framework Plan is a 20-mile series of urban greenways that weave St. Louis’s multicultural resources, destinations, and neighborhoods together in transformative ways. Its mission is to create a new destination city with diverse experiences, integrating equitable strategies, economic investment, and recommendations for implementation and future governance.

While it is always nice to have hard work recognized, these awards pale in comparison to the daily positive influence LJC has made on neighborhoods nationwide with its commitment to elevating the art and science of architecture.

Congratulations on these remarkable accomplishments! Witnessing how structures can become cherished components of our communities is rewarding and inspirational. I can’t wait to see how LJC’s ongoing efforts continue to improve people’s access to arts, culture, nature, and each other.
