EXPO CHICAGO 2025 is at Navy Pier!

Tony Karman

Another amazing EXPO CHICAGO with the grand Tony Karman!

The exhibition runs at Navy Pier until April 27th, bringing together over 170 leading galleries from 36 countries and 93 cities to showcase a diverse exhibit of contemporary works. Under Tony’s stewardship and that of his exceptional team, the fair continues to evolve with local and global artistic expressions.

Piece by the late sculptor and printmaker Elizabeth Catlett

There were many standout features this year, one of my favorites being a powerful piece by the late sculptor and printmaker Elizabeth Catlett. It was also great to see Marcellina Akpojotor’s work at this year’s event. Two of Marcellina’s pieces are part of The Clark Collection. Originally from Nigeria, her art explores female empowerment and the roles of women in African society. Her designs use intricate collages and painting techniques, and she is known for recycling colorful discarded strips of Ankara fabric, incorporating different prints into textile art.

This year also marked the debut of CONTRAST, a curated section led by Lauren Haynes, Head Curator of Governors Island Arts and Vice President for Arts and Culture at the Trust for Governors Island in New York City. Each piece prompts you to think about personal and shared stories, encouraging a fresh perspective on old ideas and an appreciation for different viewpoints.

EXPO CHICAGO has expanded its international reach through a new partnership with the Galleries Association of Korea (Gaok). Supported by South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this collaboration introduced 20 Korean galleries to the fair, enriching the dialogue with innovative works that bridge Eastern and Western artistic traditions. The event has also done a great job of uplifting emergent talent and highlighting the dynamic energy of the next generation of artists.

In its second year under Frieze, EXPO CHICAGO continues to grow its global reach while staying true to Chicago’s vibrant art scene. Walking through Festival Hall, I was reminded how much art and construction share—big ideas, collaboration, and a deep connection to people and place. EXPO CHICAGO 2025 is an incredible celebration of creativity, communities, and connections.

I encourage everyone in the Chicagoland area to visit Navy Pier this weekend to experience the power of art in shaping our world!
