For 40 years, we at Clayco have prioritized creating a built environment that blends with nature and facilitates a vibrant and inclusive future for all. Our GSE report outlines our organization’s ambitious goals for improvement and details the concrete steps we’re taking to ensure accountability for our ecological footprint. We recognize the importance of carbon emissions, energy use, and resource consumption and mitigate our impact through sustainable practices and by setting a high standard for the wider construction industry.
Clayco is committed to building a future where growth and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. The GSE report covers our journey from 2022 to 2023, highlighting how we’ve stayed dedicated to implementing responsible strategies and procedures in everything we do. We ALWAYS put people and communities first while working diligently to solve tough challenges for our clients. Due to the diverse talents, cultures, and backgrounds of our team members, we’ve made great progress, experienced positive changes, and embraced innovation over the last year.
Governance, Safety, & Community Milestones
Innovation and strong governance remain at the core of Clayco’s strategy. We’ve fostered a ZERO incident work culture, achieving a record EMR of 0.48 and receiving recognition from OSHA and the National Safety Council. Just as we aim for every project to reflect our safety-first standards, we also want each development to mirror our diversity. Clayco Rising has significantly furthered our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, with over 360 diverse subcontractors and record-breaking new hires in 2023.
These are essential achievements to sparking change BEYOND These Walls, but we care equally about the transformations that happen within. Clayco’s Student Loan Repayment Plan helps reduce the burden of student loan debt for our employees by making additional payments to accelerate the repayment time frame. We want our talented team members to have the opportunity to pursue education without facing a lifetime of financial hardship.
Sustainable Construction & Future Impact
Sustainable construction practices protect our planet and underpin the lasting success of our projects. We at Clayco are constantly exploring transformative solutions to reduce our environmental impact, whether through energy-efficient building design or by using sustainable materials and construction methods. Our partnership with STUDSON produced a first-of-its-kind SHK-1 Full Brim Safety Helmet for our employees across North America, providing better protection, ventilation, and comfort than a standard hard hat. When you reinvent the wheel – or, in this case, the hard hat – it has to be for a good reason. For us, it’s ensuring everyone's safety on our job sites.
Our GSE report also highlights how we remain focused on arts and culture, science, education, and economic development. Clayco has allocated $5.7 million to support over 125 charitable organizations and continues to stay dedicated to reducing carbon emissions with SBTi-approved targets – and this is just the beginning. It is our responsibility to protect and preserve the natural and cultural resources of the communities we serve.
