Labor Day: A Reflection on Its Roots and Reason

Never underestimate the value of HARD WORK!

Labor Day offers a moment to pause and recognize the dedication and contributions of the generations of American workers who have built our country and continue to shape its future. The holiday originated in the late 19th century during the labor movement when workers fought for better working conditions, fair wages, and reasonable hours. Fortunately, society has come a long way since then, and now, the holiday serves as a tribute to the strength, prosperity, and well-being that workers bring to the nation.

When I started Clayco 40 years ago, I couldn’t have dreamed of it evolving into such a transformative institution run by people who share the same drive for innovation and community. Our team recognizes the importance of pausing to honor the labor movement's commitment, especially the men and women in the construction industry who build the very foundations of our neighborhoods and world.

It’s crucial to show appreciation for the hardworking laborers and tradespeople who have paved the way toward progress and continue to keep our society connected with spaces and structures that break barriers. Labor Day is more than just the unofficial end of summer–it’s a celebration of the enduring spirit of American workers who get up every day to make an impact.

I want to express my gratitude to all of the individuals at Clayco for their exceptional dedication and relentless effort. I am increasingly proud of our achievements and the positive impact we make through our work. I wish everyone a safe, fun, and restful long weekend.

Let’s keep celebrating the social and economic milestones we’ve achieved while fostering a brighter tomorrow!
