Congratulations to my friend David Adjaye on winning a TIME100 Impact Award for the way he has pushed the architecture industry forward.
I have always admired this Ghanaian-British architect’s egalitarian, community-focused approach, and I have previously featured him as the architect of the month.
Adjaye’s philosophy is that architecture should serve the people it’s intended for. He develops residential, commercial, and cultural spaces that are not simply landmarks, but also multi-use community spaces.
I believe his designs, which include the National Museum of African American History and Culture in the US and the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi, will stand out for generations to come. Despite his well-deserved success, he remains a humble man. I can’t think of a more deserving recipient of this prestigious award.
