Celebrating International Women’s Day with Clayco (NOW)

Our team at Clayco is working to build meaningful change from the ground up in everything we do across our offices, job sites, and beyond. Although diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental values we hold to the highest priority every day, it’s important to celebrate the special days of commemoration that bring us closer – like March, which is Women’s History Month, including International Women’s Day!

Women’s History Month encourages the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. The theme today, March 8th, for International Women’s Day is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” highlighting the need for equity-based changes in the digital age to help empower all women and girls. Today and every day, the women in our workforce and communities help us build a better world and future. Clayco is working to proactively transform our industry and community with innovative programs and initiatives, one of which is our Clayco Network of Women (NOW).

Clayco NOW is a resource group that aims to increase female leadership throughout the design, construction, and real estate development industry. Its goal is to foster equity and connection by investing in women to develop and transform our company culture and beyond. The organization facilitates equitable opportunities and relationships through workforce development and initiatives. It also helps hold us accountable by employing a fair and inclusive bid solicitation process for all our partners, minority youth mentorships, charitable foundation, and community engagement. To provide equal opportunity for all, Clayco NOW hosts various events to raise awareness and create connections – like job site tours of our Skye on 6th project in downtown Phoenix and the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis that showed firsthand how our diverse team is transforming skylines.

To build an inclusive society, it has to start from within, which is why Clayco is committed to supporting and advancing strong, talented women who make up our workforce and world. Our company strives for accurate representation so women and young girls can see female role models, recognize their potential, and have the tools to succeed.

We sent out a questionnaire to some women in our enterprise to learn more about their experiences and what we could do to improve company culture and spotlight their roles and successes. Robyn Artis, Design and Construction Integrator at Clayco, has been in the industry for 24 years and gave a bit of advice to other women in the sector:

“I was very calculated in my choices and I learned as much as I could to carve out a role for myself and to prove the potential of women in this incredibly exciting industry! Don’t just ask for the seat, take the seat. And then get to work.” Artis said.

Our team will continue to do all it can to make our industry and communities a more diverse and welcoming place for women and people of all backgrounds and walks of life.
