The Obama Presidential Center is taking shape in Jackson Park on Chicago’s South Side, and the progress has been incredible to watch!
Since its groundbreaking in 2021, this 19-acre campus has grown into a dynamic space reflecting thoughtful design and community impact. Designed by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects | Partners, built by Lakeside Alliance and managed by Clayco alongside Ardmore Roderick, this project is a testament to what’s possible when great partnerships and purpose-driven work align. I’m very proud of the innovative partnership JV with Turner Construction Company, Powers & Sons Construction, UJAMAA Construction, Safeway Construction, and Brown and Momen.
At its core, the Obama Presidential Center is about uplifting people and building opportunities.
The campus will include education and training resources through a state-of-the-art Chicago Public Library branch featuring interactive digital media spaces, a reading room, and vocational programs. A revitalized park will have play areas, walking paths, a sledding hill, and a long promenade connecting the Center to Jackson Park’s scenic lagoons. It will also spark economic opportunities by creating jobs, attracting visitors, and bringing new energy into the South Side.
One of the project’s most exciting moments so far was the topping-out ceremony, where we marked the completion of the highest structural point of the Museum building. Seeing President Obama address the teams who made it possible was a reminder of the incredible collaborative efforts behind this project. When he addressed us, his words stuck with me: “That’s what builds this country, and I want everyone to know that I see you.”
As we move closer to completion, it’s undeniable that this project is about so much more than the physical structures taking shape. At Clayco, we’ve always believed in building Beyond These Walls to create spaces that don’t just stand tall but also stand for connection and opportunity, empowering people to think bigger and aim higher.
It’s an honor to help bring this vision to life that will serve, uplift, and impact generations long after the final beam is placed.
