Innovation, Community, and Learning Inside the Clark Family Branch

The Clark Family Branch stands as a beacon of learning, creativity, and community in St. Louis. As the largest branch in the St. Louis County Library (SLCL) system, this 74,000-square-foot space offers an unparalleled experience for residents of all ages. It combines state-of-the-art resources with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Since the Clark Family Branch’s grand opening last year, it has been humbling to witness the joy it has sparked in so many kids, adults, and St. Louisans. I am proud to be a part of such an important development that will benefit generations to come!

Taking A Look Inside

Libraries have always been a sanctuary for exploration, and the Clark Family Branch continues that tradition on an incredible scale. With a children’s section filled with interactive activities, an innovative lab for teens, and a business center for small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs, there is genuinely something for everyone. The Post Event Space, sponsored by Post Holdings, is home to the SLCL’s renowned author series, offering the perfect venue for intellectual exchange. It is the #1 author event series in the nation, where you can experience cultural enrichment and hear stories from the mouths of the authors themselves! Check out some of the upcoming events here

Whether you're cozying up by a fireplace, exploring art from the Kranzberg Arts Foundation, or conducting research in private study rooms, the Clark Family Branch fosters discovery and connection. Beyond its creative amenities, the branch is a leader in sustainability. Lamar Johnson Collaborative did a great job prioritizing environmental preservation and incorporating native plant species, erosion control, and a pedestrian-friendly pathway that integrates nature into the space and design.

Library System Initiatives & Activities

The SLCL system is made up of 20 terrific locations that open up entire worlds of knowledge and experience. The resources of these branches are becoming even more accessible to widespread communities through a newly launched initiative called Gateway to Reading! This program is designed to boost literacy for young children by offering free, hands-on workshops that teach a phonics-based approach to reading. Participants are even given toolkits to continue learning at home! Initiatives like this make learning FUN and build strong foundations for lifelong education. Various programs are also available across the system for adults and those looking to fine-tune their business or creative skills. You won’t want to miss out on events for all ages that aim to enlighten and empower. Take a look at the upcoming workshops here

A Lasting Impact

It is rewarding to see the SLCL system and its branches thrive and gain recognition throughout Missouri. The system was awarded the sixth annual Jerry Kline Community Impact Prize, developed in partnership with the Gerald M. Kline Family Foundation and Library Journal, to commemorate the synergy that happens when libraries work closely with local governments and communities. At the Clark Family Branch and beyond, knowledge, opportunity, and innovation remain at the heart of our mission. Let’s keep writing this powerful story together!
