We’re breaking ground and barriers to mental health access!
This terrific milestone at Gateways Hospital & Mental Health Centers in Los Angeles, CA, is a great step forward for wellness. It never gets old breaking ground – but it’s actually super exciting when you’re doing it for mental health. Gateways is gaining a new 27,000-square-foot Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatric Center that will house 37 adolescent inpatient beds. It aims to focus on at-risk youth with eating disorders, gender identity issues, and trauma.
Gateways is one of the largest providers of acute adolescent mental health services in the area – and offers services at NO cost! At Clayco, we believe that the spaces we create should serve a greater purpose. That’s why we are proud to help build the new center to spark real change for Los Angeles County’s most vulnerable youth. This expansion project will increase the capacity for services to ensure that more people get the support they need. A key focus of this project is providing specialized care for gender-diverse youth, a group that faces disproportionately high rates of mental health struggles. This facility will offer trauma-informed treatment in a supportive environment, setting a new standard for inclusive healthcare.
This project is backed by a $19.2 million grant from the Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP), reinforcing the county’s investment in sustainable mental health solutions. Along with inpatient care, Gateways already supports students at 22 Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) schools through outpatient services in multiple languages, further strengthening the region’s mental health safety net and cultivating a culture of empowerment. Our Clayco team is committed to delivering this facility with the highest standards of quality. Every part of the project will contribute to a supportive and healing environment.
This is more than just a hospital expansion—it’s an investment in the future of community welfare. Since 1953, Gateways has been dedicated to helping people, supporting over 1,700 children, teens, and adults with various mental health services. By coming together, healthcare leaders, government agencies, and builders can ensure that young people in crisis have access to the care they deserve for generations to come.
And that’s a mission worth building for!
