Celebrating National Read a Book Day

No matter how busy life may get, always make time to read!

Reading transports you to new worlds and broadens your mind, introducing you to concepts, experiences, and perspectives that can help deepen your understanding of the world around you. It’s a powerful way to expand your worldview and your grasp of life’s complexities. National Read a Book Day is celebrated annually on September 6th and encourages people to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasure of reading – something everyone needs to do more often!

Reading is an excellent tool to foster personal growth, knowledge, and stress relief. Especially concerning today’s youth, where attention spans are getting shorter, and most interests are turned toward digital platforms instead of libraries, days like this are becoming increasingly important to promote literacy and foster a lifelong love of books and intellectual curiosity.

Here are some books that I’ve recently read and highly recommend for those interested in pushing themselves outside of their comfort zone or learning more about the inner workings of our society:

Legacy: A Biography of Moses and Walter Annenberg

Money, controversy, and power—the Annenberg family’s story is anything but ordinary. "Legacy: A Biography of Moses and Walter Annenberg" by Christopher Ogden explores how Moses Annenberg revolutionized American media and how his son, Walter, took their legacy to new heights in education and the arts. This biography offers a compelling look at their remarkable achievements and the controversies that followed. It’s a fascinating testament to how dreams and values can shape the world.

All the Worst Humans

Dive into human morality and the transformative power of change (and PR)!  "All the Worst Humans" by Phil Elwood is an eye-opening memoir that reveals the secrets of the $129-billion industry that shapes much of what we see and hear. What makes it even more interesting is that Elwood once controlled that same narrative himself. If you want to learn the behind-the-scenes of how the PR business works and how the truth gets made, spun, and sold to the public, then this book is a MUST-read!

The Ghosts of K2: The Epic Saga of the First Ascent

Calling all climbers! If you're like me and love pushing boundaries, check out Mick Conefrey’s book “The Ghosts of K2: The Epic Saga of the First Ascent.” This gripping read highlights the dangerous history of K2, the world’s second-highest and most dangerous mountain. With a fatality rate of over 20%, the mountain has claimed many lives but also inspired incredible feats of bravery and determination. It is a thrilling must-read for any adventure-seekers like myself or for those aiming to test themselves physically and mentally. I might just be the next man fixated on this legendary mountain!
