In the world of contemporary art, Jedd Novatt is celebrated for his bold exploration of form and balance. Born in New York in 1958, Novatt studied at Sarah Lawrence College and the Lacoste School of the Arts in France, where he honed his distinctive approach to sculpture. His pieces have been exhibited globally, from the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao to the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). Novatt’s Chaos series has resonated most deeply with audiences. The work represents the unpredictability of life itself and challenges traditional ideas of structure while embodying the tension between order and disorder.
Many of Novatt's sculptures seem to defy gravity. He stacks geometric shapes that tilt on the edge of collapse in an impossible balance, urging viewers to recognize the tension between stability and the unknown. Each sculpture is a visual statement and an emotionally intellectual experience. What I find most compelling about Novatt's work is that his pieces are more than just physical structures—they reflect life's dynamic and evolving nature. His ability to create a sense of balance amidst chaos speaks directly to human existence.
Our Clayco team is proud to feature Novatt’s Chaos Continuum 2024 piece at our new St. Louis office, where it stands as a message of strength, creativity, and adaptability. It was great to have the opportunity to admire the piece with Clayco’s Board of Advisors after our meeting. We held a dedication and blessing ceremony for the iconic sculpture that was meticulously installed earlier this week by our extensive and talented team. With Novatt himself in attendance as well, it was indeed a spectacle to be seen watching Clayco cranes bring the work to life and help us further exemplify the Art & Science of Building!
As Novatt’s artistry continues to captivate international audiences, it reminds us that art has the power to shape how we see ourselves and the world around us. Whether in a museum, public spaces, or located at our own office, impactful art like Novatt’s sparks conversations that go beyond itself to inspire on a deeper level.
If you ever have the chance to view Novatt’s pieces in real life, it will be an experience you won't soon forget!
